Policy Advisor

Verena Bitter is a Policy Advisor in the Digital Finance department at the IIF. Verena was seconded in January 2025 from Commerzbank. Prior to joining the IIF, she was a Senior Policy Advisor on EU Regulation at Commerzbank’s EU Liaison Office in Brussels. She covered Digital Finance (including AI, Crypto, Cybersecurity and Cloud) as well as Sustainability, AML and Retail. Verena was also responsible for exchanges with the European institutions within the European Cloud User Coalition (ECUC) – an association of 30+ financial institutions.

Education

Verena holds a master’s degree in European public policy and administration from Maastricht University as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Politics and Public Law from University of Trier. While working for Commerzbank she followed the University of Cambridge’s Sustainable Finance program as well as the DLT Talents program by the Frankfurt School of Finance and Economics.
